An object for the unseen.

My fascination with planchettes began with their history as tools for communicating with spirits and their connection to automatic writing. After the death of my sister, that history took on a much more personal meaning.

Grief left me with a deep desire to speak with her again—to have a real conversation. That longing opened me to the unseen and to ideas I hadn't previously made much room for: spirit, intuition, ritual, crystals, tarot, and the possibility that there may be more around us than what we can see.

The Planchette grew out of that period.

I sculpted the original form by hand in hard plasticine in 2023, then created a two-part plaster mold so I could slip cast the form in ceramic. It didn't work particularly well. After struggling with the mold, I eventually put the project aside.

In the summer of 2024, I pulled it back out.

I reworked the mold, enlarged the sprue, and began experimenting again. Slowly, a few successful pieces began to emerge.

These seven Planchettes are the result.

Each carries evidence of that process. Small variations in casting, glaze, surface, and finish are part of the objects and part of their story. After years of making, failing, setting them aside, returning, and trying again, I am finally ready to let them leave my studio.

Edition of 7. Each Planchette includes a signed and numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
